A Hop: Lubbock, TX November Photo Dump & Recap
I recently traveled down to Lubbock, Texas to attend my little brother’s ring ceremony at Texas Tech University. It was a really fun and special time because my family celebrated three things at once: my brother’s birthday, Thanksgiving, and my brother’s ring ceremony!
It was an incredible time filled with laughter, sock-stealing shenanigans, and too many baked goods to count. My absolute favorite dish this year had to be the turkey and stuffing combo. What dish do you look forward to every year? Or do you have a special treat you make for special occasions? Last year my mom and I made Bailey’s chocolate poke cake.
It was so delightful, we had to commit to making the cake a second year in a row. Yes, we made it because of the request from my brother for his birthday cake. Yet, we also enjoyed making one flavor punch of a cake as opposed to a million and one pies. Do you want to make the same cake? Here is the recipe we use. Do I love pie? Yes. Do I also love cake? Yes. Do I love cake more than pie? …Maybe.
We mainly enjoyed each other’s company while we were down in Texas. Yet, we did occasionally venture forth into the world. We were able to visit an amazing antique store, get boba tea, and even squeezed in a last-minute doughnut run. One night we also partied a bit with some drive-through daiquiris and alcohol-soaked gummy snacks all consumed safely at home. It was a bit of a celebration after all.
The Antique Mall of Lubbock was my favorite place we went to during the trip. It was enormous and had shelves upon shelves of beautiful vintage items. The store was very well kept. Most of the items looked carefully placed, cleaned, and well-dusted. The owners showcased their care and passion in the way they maintained the establishment.
Another highlight to add was the opportunity to try new boba tea flavors at Teapioca Lounge. I tried their pumpkin spice dirty chai with tapioca boba. It was iced but warmed my soul. It was a nice, spicy treat to have in the day. It reminded me of warm gingerbread spices with chai. So, I would say that it would be a great drink to get if you are looking to get into the holiday spirit.
The other business we visited was a local doughnut shop called Rise N Shine. I could not find a direct website for them. The link above is for a general menu they had. The doughnuts were light, airy, and soft. My favorite one that I tried was their jelly doughnut. My family and I also split a few breakfast burritos. I would recommend getting the sausage and egg burrito if you have the opportunity. It was full of meat, melty cheese, and fluffy eggs which were perfect.
Lubbock, Texas is an interesting place. I love how much the overall town supports Texas Tech as a university. It brings the community together and allows their pride to shine throughout the city. Visiting my brother and getting to attend his ring ceremony was a moment I will cherish forever. I am extremely proud of him and all that he has and will accomplish. I will go back in a few weeks to watch him graduate. I cannot wait to see what the future holds for him! I look forward to seeing him again as well as possibly exploring Lubbock a bit more.
